Acknowledgements
This site aims to honour and share the important work of the late Bill McLennan (1948-2020). As MOA's Curator, Pacific Northwest, his pioneering research with infrared photography drove the Image Recovery Project and resulted in the groundbreaking book The Transforming Image: Painted Arts of Northwest Coast First Nations (with Karen Duffek, 2000). He had a deep passion for researching the history and dynamics of Northwest Coast art, and was committed to sharing his knowledge with others.
From the early days of the Image Recovery Project to the development of this site, many researchers, artists, community members, and Museum of Anthropology (MOA) staff members have contributed their knowledge and skills. In all of its work, including this project, MOA benefits from its location on the traditional and unceded territory of the Musqueam First Nation, and values the community's ongoing and growing relationship with the Museum.
We are grateful to those who have contributed in a myriad of ways: from photography to research and writing, and from creating new renditions of the painted compositions to providing funding and other forms of support. We also thank the institutions and private owners who have provided access to their collections. The following list is a work in progress; additional names will be added as this site grows.
